April 23, 2011 - the 12th Annual Egg Hunt and fun day was held despite the cold rain that fell. Participants were greeted by the Easter Bunny and were able to hunt and gather the colorful eggs, with the aid of umbrellas. Cindy Killavey told some special stories and Larysa was on hand for face painting and extra fun.

On July 7, 2010 Preserve Portsmouth invited Ken Ayars, Chief of the RI DEM Division of Agriculture to an informal lunch gathering on the front yard of the Brown House. Ken spoke about the importance of local food and preserving local farms, and lead a question and answer session following.

Thanks to Conni Harding of Preserve Portsmouth for organizing this event. Thanks to those who participated especially in light of the heat wave at the time.

Read about the meeting at the local Portsmouth news blog Hard Deadlines.

Yard Sale, June 9, 2001

We'd like to thank the many folks who donated items to the yard sale and those that came to volunteer and to buy. It was a lovely day in the back yard, some great deals were made and we raised about $400 for the Brown House.

The photo at right was taken toward the end as clean up was starting and the super deals were being made.

Our spring Antique Appraisal day was April 24, 2001. The wonderful people of Aquidneck Place (Assisted Living Center) hosted the event for us again this year.

We also want to thank appraiser Michael Westman  (135 Spring St. Newport) for donating his time and expertise to our cause again.

One of the interesting articles that turned up this time was a Conselor Appointment document from 1864, signed by both President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State William H. Seward.

Also Special thanks to the folks from the Glen Farm Equestrian Center for making sure all the kids who wanted a pony ride got one!

Zipper the horse give Nick Krol a ride.

Congratulations to Katie Harding who guessed 816 Jelly Beans in the container. There were 818 Jelly Bellies in the container and she wins them.

The obstacle course (left) was a big hit with the kids - as was the hot chocolate, brrrrr.

Our new sign is up in front of the house. (10/7/00) We hope this will bring more visibility to the project by letting people know what is going on there.
Thank you to Reynolds Signs of Portsmouth (847-6732) for helping us with it.

The May 13th "Spring Fling" was held back again by foul weather, but those who did come visit had fun! Below is Middletown resident Melissa Ferreira enjoying a ride on "Beau" the pony.

Several groups had tables at the yard sale. The weather may have kept people away but didn't dampen the spirits of the people who came. We hope to make the yard sale a once a month event.
Yard Sale at Brown House

Rain forced us to cancel many of the games/rides we had planned for our Easter Egg Hunt Fundraiser but we held the hunt anyway - several times!
About 60 people braved the weather to join in the hunt, get some goodies at the bake sale and to see the house.  The jelly bean jar had 1237 beans in it - the contest went to Laura Greichen who gave the winning guess of 1207! Thank you to everyone!

St. Patrick's Day Parade, Newport

It may have rained (sleet!) at the 44th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Newport (3/11/00) but that didn't stop our intrepid volunteers from trying to garner some local support for the project!
