August 2 - Newport: The John Grenville Winslow Lecture: An Evening with Noel Coward 8:00 p.m. at Rosecliff, 548 Bellevue Avenue. David Garrard Lowe and Bobby Nesbitt... A witty celebration of the life and music of the English playwright, composer, and actor Noel Coward. His personal style featuring silk dressing gowns and long cigarette holders, together with his delicious wit, made Coward one of the icons of chic glamour in the decades between the First and Second World Wars. Coward's style was accompanied by a formidable talent, which produced matchless plays such as Private Lives and Blithe Spirit, memorable films like Brief Encounter and In Which We Serve, as well as unforgettable songs including A Room with a View and Mad Dogs and Englishmen. This entertainment, conceived and written by David Garrard Lowe, will include narration and images of Coward by Mr. Lowe, and renditions of his songs by the noted cabaret singer Bobby Nesbitt. August 17 - Newport: PM Musical Picnics at The Newport Art Museum The Newport Art Museum’s summer music series, PM Musical Picnics, is back, sponsored by NewportFed. The series has been a favorite al fresco entertainment deal for locals and tourists since 1994. PM Musical Picnics are held once a month on the grounds of the Museum's historic Griswold House at 76 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, in the early evening hours beginning at 6 pm. The transformation of the early 18th century state rooms at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire seat of the Dukes of Marlborough, undertaken by the Ninth Duke of Marlborough and his American wife, Consuelo Vanderbilt, is a subject shrouded in mystery and misconception. Mr. Miller will discuss the reasons for the redecoration and reveal the major players in this re-gilding of one of Britain's most celebrated stately homes. August 21 - Newport: Rough Point Landscape Tour 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Experience the creation of Frederick Law Olmsted, renowned father of landscape architecture, who initially designed the grounds at Rough Point in the 1890s. The tour traces Newport's development as a premier vacation spot as reflected in its landscape, going back 250 years to when this part of Newport was farmland, to the earliest summer cottages, to the more formal estates built by America's wealthiest families. Learn about the distinguished design history of this landscape while enjoying beautiful gardens and breathtaking views. August -- - Portsmouth: 27th Allen H. Chatterton Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament at the Carnegie Abbey Club Providence Children’s Museum will hold the 27th Allen H. Chatterton Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament at the world-famous Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth, RI. Participants will take a turn on the Scottish-style links course, play in a tennis round robin, delight in spa treatments, or simply enjoy cocktails and dinner at the waterfront Clubhouse – there’s something for everyone!
Golf packages begin at $250 for individual golfers and $1,250 for foursomes and include 18 holes of golf, greens fees, cart, caddie, lunch, dinner, on-course beverages and a golf favor. Tennis registration is $150 and includes a round robin and dinner. Dinner-only tickets are available for $75 per person. All proceeds benefit Providence Children’s Museum.
Golf registration begins at 11:30 AM with a shotgun start at 12:30 PM and prizes will be awarded for skill contests such as longest drive, closest to the keg and closest to the pin – including the chance to win a luxury car for a hole-in-one.

The Museum’s first-class annual golf tournament was instituted in 1983 by the late Allen Chatterton Jr., an early supporter and Board member of the Children’s Museum, and is chaired by his son, Allen H. Proceeds support the hands-on exhibits and innovative educational programs at Rhode Island’s only museum especially for children and their families and enable the Museum to serve a growing number of children and caregivers of all economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. As a successful freelance producer for network and cable television, Amy McCoy once enjoyed gourmet food with little concern for price. In this way, the market supports the people who are actually growing the food and as shoppers we get a higher quality product, e.g. riper peaches, juicier tomatoes, and sweeter sweet corn. In addition, all of the baked goods, canned goods, eggs, meats, flowers, honey, and crafts are produced and made by the farms and people who are selling them. Nothing is “bought in” or resold from another source.

The public will enjoy free viewing of the colorful and historic coaches every day, as they drive through the streets of Newport and the grounds of the Newport Mansions, celebrating and preserving a century-old sporting tradition. Approximately a dozen coaching teams will come to Newport from around the country.
The routes of the daily drives will be published in the local press and the Preservation Society's website (www.NewportMansions.org), along with suggested viewing spots. In addition, there will be a free-to-the-public driving exhibition on the grounds of The Elms starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, August 22. The weekend will culminate with a formal Coaching Dinner Dance at The Breakers on Saturday evening.

Fridays through August --- Newport: The Elms After Hours at The Elms, 367 Bellevue Avenue, Newport. Allows guests to experience a bit of the elegance of a Gilded Age summer party. August -- through Nov. -- - Portsmouth: Get Lost in Escobar's Corn Maze! Through Labor Day Hours are Mon through Sat. 10am till dusk, Sundays 11 - dusk. After Labor Day, Fridays 3pm till dusk, Saturdays 10am till dusk, and 11am -dusk on Sundays. (After Labor Day open midweek for large groups and school field trips by reservation only.) Open Columbus Day 10:00 - dusk. The Maze has 2 miles of paths, and covers 8 acres of the Escobar's Highland Farm at 251 Middle Rd in Portsmouth. This year's maze focuses on the "Go Green, Go Local" movement. It includes a windmill, oil barrels, recycling symbol and a gas pump. Dogs are welcome, but for their safety they must be kept on a leash at all times. If your doggie wants to run the maze with you they'll be happy to give you a bag so that you can bring out anything he might wish to leave behind to "trip up" other Maizies.
