Through November 16 - Portsmouth: "Juried Members Show" at the Portsmouth Art Guild
       Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 1-5pm. The opening reception is Oct. 3rd from 6-8pm at The Portsmouth Arts Guild Center For The Arts, 2679 East Main Rd, next to St. Paul's Church, Portsmouth, RI. Juried Members Show, artwork drawn from the Arts Guild membership of more than 160 artists from Aquidneck Island and surrounding towns.

November 20 - December 21- Portsmouth: "2nd Annual Under $200 Holiday Show & Sale" at the Portsmouth Art Guild
       Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 1-5pm. The opening reception is Nov. 23rd from 2-4pm at The Portsmouth Arts Guild Center For The Arts, 2679 East Main Rd, next to St. Paul's Church, Portsmouth, RI. 2nd Annual Under $200 Holiday Show & Sale, come and shop for holiday gift giving

Through Nov. --   - Portsmouth: Get Lost in Escobar's Corn Maze!
       Through Labor Day Hours are Mon through Sat. 10am till dusk, Sundays 11 - dusk. After Labor Day, Fridays 3pm till dusk, Saturdays 10am till dusk, and 11am -dusk on Sundays. (After Labor Day open midweek for large groups and school field trips by reservation only.) Open Roshashanna 10:00 AM - 4:00 and Open Columbus Day 10:00 - dusk. The Maze has 2 miles of paths (in 2 phases), and covers 8 acres of the Escobar's Highland Farm at 251 Middle Rd in Portsmouth. You'll be up against devilish twists and turns, bridges and dead ends. Our Maze was designed for Highland Farm by Brett Herbst of The Maize. We love dogs, but for their safety they must be kept on a leash at all times. If your doggie wants to run the maze with you we'll be happy to give you a bag so that you can bring out anything he might wish to leave behind to "trip up" other Maizies.
       Admission- 12 and over, $7; 5 - 11 years old, $5; children 4 and under are free. There is also a hay play area for smaller children, a concession stand, and porta potties. Nov. --   - Portsmouth: Scouts will pick up food donations for "Scouting for Food" drive
    Starting at 9am. Scouts from Portsmouth Pack 50 and Boy Scout Troops in Portsmouth may have left bags on your doorknob or mailbox last weekend. Please put your canned / non perishable food donation in the bags and leave them on your door step or near mailbox for pick up today. All food donations will be brought to the Portsmouth Fire Station for transport to the Food Banks.

November -- - Portsmouth: Fine Arts & Crafts Show at The Pennfield School
      A wonderful fine arts and crafts show featuring over 60 vendors offering unique handmade items including jewelery, clothes, painting, photography, pottery, woodworking and home decor items. The Preview Party is on Friday, November 9 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Sample hors d'oeuvres while sipping complimentary cocktails. Tickets are $20 and available at the door. The doors reopen on Saturday, November 10, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. $2 at the door, children are free.

Nov. -- - Portsmouth: Annual Harvest Festival at Greenvale Vineyards
        
    1pm to 4pm at Greenvale Vineyards 582 Wapping Road Portsmouth. Greenvale Vineyards will host its 9th Annual Harvest Festival. The event is held to celebrate the completion of the annual grape harvest. Everyone is welcome to attend; the celebration is open to the public. Back by popular demand, the Boston-based folk duo Fishken and Groves will perform from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Their music has been described as “…back to a time when folk music was less about the stars and more about the songs. With front-porch conviviality,…with harmonies as sweet and thick as home-baked cake” by Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe. In addition, the celebration will include vineyard tours throughout the afternoon, tractor rides and snacks for the children, and of course Greenvale Vineyards’ award winning, estate grown wines!

November -- - Portsmouth: Common Fence Music Series

Nov. -- - Portsmouth: Veterans Day Observance
        9 a.m. in front of Portsmouth Town Hall on East Main Rd. American Legion Post #18 will host a memorial service followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Portsmouth War Memorial in front of the Town Hall.

Nov. -- - Newport: 24th Annual Taste of Newport Fund Raiser for Child & Family       
            5:30 pm to 10:00 pm at the HYATT Regency Newport on Goat Island.Sprint-to-the-finish chefs, snarly whip-‘em-into-shape chefs, and Master chef cook-offs - competition in the kitchen may be all over the television landscape but it will be a different scene entirely at the Hyatt Regency Newport on November 11 when the region’s best-in-the-business come together for an evening of comradely cooking in support of a good cause. Guests can sample the mouth-watering results at the 24th annual Taste of Newport, a benefit for Child & Family. The event includes a tasting dinner, raffle, and silent and live auctions. Nov.-- - Newport:  Veterans Ceremony at City Hall
        11am on the front lawn of City Hall, Broadway. The United Veterans Council of Newport County and VFW Conover-Leary Post 406 will hold the ceremony.

Nov. -- - Newport: Veterans Day Commemoration and tours
   
12:30 to 2:30pm, weather permitting, the World War I Monument Tower at Miantonomi Park, Hillside Ave. will be open to commemorate Veteran's Day. All are invited to climb the tower and enjoy the view from the top. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Binoculars are recommended for a spectacular view. Please note the climb both up the hill and inside the tower could be considered strenuous.

November -- - Newport: Newport International Film Festival's Second Monday Cinema Series and Workshop   
            7 pm at the Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center, 49 Touro Street, Newport. The Newport International Film Festival inaugurates its Second Monday Cinema Series and Workshop with a pre-release screening and discussion of the film, "Starting Out in the Evening.” After the screening, Nancy Israel, the film’s Producer, will answer questions and talk about making the movie. “Starting Out in the Evening,” starring Frank Langella, Lili Taylor and Lauren Ambrose, has already garnered Academy Award nomination buzz. Its theme is transformation, reinvention, renewal and starting again with a new perspective – even in the “evening” of life.Tickets for the show and workshop are $10 or $8 for Film Newport members. They will be available at the Jane Pickens box office after 5:30 pm on the day of the screening, Monday, November 12.

Nov - Portsmouth: The Pennfield School's 15th Annual Cornucopia Fine Arts and Crafts Sale
           Friday 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Pennfield School, 110 Sandy Point Avenue. This event kicks off with a Preview Party on Friday evening and offers first choice of holiday shopping. Enjoy live music, wine, beer and delicious hors'd'euvres as you view 50 exhibitors from throughout the New England Area showcasing various crafts. ($20 entrance fee) The show continues on Saturday, with a $2 entrance fee. (children free) Food and refreshments will be offered throughout the day.        10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s church, 525 Broadway (One Mile Corner) Newport. Bake sale, crafts, white elephants, books, jewelry, silent auction, lunch.

Nov.   through Jan. - Newport: Christmas at the Newport Mansions
       The Preservation Society of Newport County invites you to make holiday memories with your family by visiting The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House, all decked out for the holidays, from November 18 through January 1. Thousands of colorful poinsettias, fresh flowers, evergreens, trees and wreaths, and 19th century-style ornaments will turn the houses and their grounds into a Yuletide wonderland.
        The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House, all National Historic Landmarks, will be open daily for tours, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. A Winter Passport ticket providing daytime admission to all three houses can be purchased for $25 for adults, $9 for children 6-17. Purchased separately, admission to The Breakers is $15 for adults, $4 for children 6-17. Marble House and The Elms are each $10 for adults and $4 for children 6-17. Tickets can be purchased online at www.NewportMansions.org, or at each property.
        Children can visit with Santa Claus amidst the grandeur of the Gilded Age at each of the three mansions on Sundays in December. Santa will make public appearances from noon to 3 p.m. at The Breakers on December 3, Marble House December 10 and The Elms December 17. The visit with Santa is included in the regular admission price.

        Holiday Evenings at the Newport Mansions provide a unique opportunity to see these historic houses in a different light. Guests can take a leisurely self-guided tour through the mansion, enjoying continuous live holiday music and a stop for holiday sweets, eggnog and cider. Holiday Evenings at The Breakers are scheduled for November 18 & 25, December 2, 9 & 30, from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. On December 16, guests can enjoy a Holiday Evening Duet: The Elms and Marble House, both for the price of one, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
        Musical Sundays at The Breakers - Live musical entertainment will also be provided on Sunday afternoons at The Breakers in December. Entertainment is included with the regular daytime admission ticket.

Nov. th - 7th Annual Rhode Island Storytelling Festival
    
Rhode Island Storytellers in Concert presents various story telling events in our area. For more info visit www.ristic.org.  This year will kick-off at the Middletown Barnes & Noble store on Friday, November th from 6-8 p.m. Visit our website for a voucher you can turn in with any book purchases made at that store anytime that day. B&N will donate a portion of sales to RISTIC.
    On Saturday, November 5th we perform at the Sullivan School on Dexter St. in Newport at 2 p.m. The Sullivan School has supported the festival with space and janitorial service at no charge. This is a free family performance.
    Sunday, November 6th the festival closes with a performance at the Norman Bird Sanctuary on Third Beach Road in Middletown. Show starts at 2 p.m. and the focus will once again be on nature and animal tales. Tickets are $5 for children and $10 for adults with a family rate of $20.00. NBS members get a discount.

Nov.   - Portsmouth: Annual Autumn Used Book Sale at the Portsmouth Free Public Library
         10:00 a.m.to noon. at the Portsmouth Free Public Library, 2658 East Main Road, Portsmouth. A preview sale will be held from 9 AM to 10 AM for members of the Library Association who have paid this year's dues. The Annual Autumn Used Book Sale features hundreds of titles of adult hard cover books and paperbacks will be available. There are also children's books as well as some used videos, music CDs, and books on tape. Additional parking is available at BankNewport

Nov. - Newport: "A Catereed Affair " to benefit the VNS
            3:00 - 5:30 p.m. at Ocean Cliff, Newport, RI. 9th Annual Fundraiser to beneit programs of the Visiting Nurse Services (VNS) of Newport and Bristol Counties. An afternoon of sampling local beers, wine, desserts and hors d'oeuvres. Music by Lois Vaughan Jazz Trio. Tickets are $25 and available at the door. Nov.     - Middletown: 20th Annual  - BankNewport - Pie Run
        8:30am start at the Newport County YMCA, 792 Valley Rd. Entry fee is $20 ($16.50 online) for either the 5 Mile run or the 3 mile walk. All entrants receive a pie. Long-sleeved T-shirts guaranteed to all entries received by November 7, 2005. Late registration and number pick-up on Wednesday, 11/23 from 4-8PM at YMCA.             Friday 4pm to 7pm, Sat. 10am to 4pm at the Middletown Senior Center, 650 Green End Ave. Featuring professional crafters from RI, MA & CT.  

Nov. - Portsmouth: International Family Night Celebration - Holidays Around the World at the Portsmouth Free Public Library
          6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Portsmouth Free Public Library, 2658 East Main Road, Portsmouth. People from other lands will explain their holiday traditions in this family program.
Our speakers and their topics include: Czech Republic with Stanley and Marta Kalkus; Germany with Ralph Hohenleitner; India with Melindah Sharma. Come join us at the Library in a cultural and festive exchange of holiday customs. This program is free and open to the public and is recommended for school age children. It’s a great way to start the holiday season!

Nov. - Newport: Artisan’s Holiday Faire at the Newport Art Museum
        Fri. 5p to 7p, preview reception; Sat. 10a to 4p; Sun noon to 4p at the Newport Art Museum, 76 Bellevue Avenue. A three-part holiday sale consists of an Artisan’s Holiday Faire, special Griffon Shop holiday offerings and an Arts and Crafts Sale by the faculty of the Museum’s art school. Nov.  - Newport: Fall Newport House Tours
       
The Newport County Inns and Bed and Breakfast Association, Inc. is again holding Tours of member Inns and Bed and Breakfasts. Tours will be from 1-3pm each tour day. Three Victorian/Colonial Inns/Bed & Breakfasts will be open to the public for viewing. Tickets are $10 (ten dollars) and are available for purchase at the Newport County Convention and Visitors Bureau. No tickets will be sold at the Inns. Ticket also includes admission to the Newport Art Museum on the day of the tour. Tickets will include a map with the name and address of the Inns/Bed & Breakfasts that are open each weekend. *Properties subject to change.       10am-4pm at the Newport Elks Lodge, Pelham St. and Bellevue Ave. Features hand made crafts. Admission is $1 with free parking available.

Nov. , Dec and January    - Newport: Holiday Evening at The Breakers
        6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Breakers, Bellevue Ave. Newport. During these special Saturday evening openings, guests can take a leisurely stroll through the mansion, enjoying continuous live holiday music in a Gilded Age setting. A stop for holiday sweets, eggnog and cider completes the elegant experience. The Holiday Evening musical performance schedule is as follows (schedule subject to change):

Preservation Society members tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $8 for children 6-17. Space is limited, and advance ticket purchase is recommended. Tickets can be purchased at any of the three houses, or online at www.NewportMansions.org.

Nov - Newport: US Marine Band, Free Concert
        2pm at Rogers High School Auditorium, 15 Wickham Rd, Newport. "The President's Own", United States Marine Band will perform a free concert. Presented by the Preservation Society of Newport County. Ticketed guests must arrive no later than 1:45pm. For free tickets 847-1000 ext. 150.

Nov.  - Portsmouth: Annual Christmas Bazaar, Portsmouth Senior Center
        10am to 3pm both days at the Multi-purpose Senior Center, 110 Bristol Ferry Rd. This annual event is the main fundraiser for the Multi-Purpose Senior Center. There will be many hand made crafts, Christmas gifts, quilts, flowers, plants and much more. Various food items will be available, so bring your appetite. There are also raffles, tickets are available at the Senior Center Office. For more info call 683-4106 

Nov. - Middletown: Holiday Fair at All Saints Academy
        9am to 3pm at All Saints Academy, 915 W. Main Rd. Attractions include a raffle, children's craft corner, a bake sale with "Thanksgiving pies" and hot lunch will be served. Admission is free. For more info call the school at 848-4300

Nov.  & Dec. - Newport: Potter's of Newport Holiday show & sale
    10am to 5pm on Sat., 10am to 4pm on Sunday at the Newport Elks Lodge, Pelham St. On display and for sale will be functional and decorative pottery, raku, ornaments, sculpture and more for yourself or gift giving. Also both days they'll have the Bowls that Benefit - a fund raiser for local charities. Proceeds from the sale of these bowls will be donated to the Women's Resource Center of Bristol and Newport Counties, the Seaman's Church Institute and Lucy's Hearth.

Nov. - Newport: St. George's Holiday Fair
        10am to 3pm at the St. George's Episcopal Church Parish House, 14 Rhode Island Ave. White elephant items, thrift shop, baked goods, crafts, a silent auction, a Christmas boutique, toys, plants, books, snack bar, children's games, face painting, pumpkin painting and tours of the church.
