The 2008 PYS season was very successful with registration exceeding expectations in many of the classes – particularly in the beginner classes. Over 135 children participated in the program. The Introduction to Racing classes and the Wednesday Night Races were well received and we hope to build on and improve both for 2009.
We purchased a newer and more versatile safety boat to accommodate the growth in the number of boats on the water. The fleet of 10 Optimists was increased on certain days with the addition of 2 loaner boats. Next year, we expect to upgrade another Safety Boat and expand the fleet of Optimists to 12. We are also considering a “bring your own Laser” program for kids over 13. If you are interested in the Laser program please let us know as soon as possible for planning purposes.
HELP!! While our sailing instructors are seasonally paid, this program is organized and run by volunteers. If you want to get involved, please send us an email or give us a call. We especially are looking for assistance in registration. We can use help with database management such as ACCESS to help facilitate this process.
In 2008, we did not actively solicit donations as we were in the process of becoming our own 501(c)(3) organization. Thanks to generous donations in 2006 and 2007 we were able to keep the program running smoothly and purchase the assets required to run the program effectively. This season we hope to expand our program to meet the growing demand. As such we will be more actively fundraising. For tax planning reasons you may wish to make a donation in 2008, which would be greatly appreciated.
Registration for the 2009 season will likely open in March!! Have a safe and happy winter.
