PORTSMOUTH YOUTH SAILING |
Class Descriptions
Courses are half day (AM or PM) camps aimed at 5-14 year olds with approximately 12 children per class. The AM session runs from 9am-12pm, the PM session from 1pm-4pm. Morning sessions are one-week camps geared towards beginners. Afternoon classes are primarily two-week camps for more confident sailors as well as those who have progressed beyond the beginner stage. All children must complete a short swim test prior to sailing alone in boats to gauge their comfort level in the water. Life jackets will be worn for the test.
LEVELS

Emphasis is on FUN and comfort in and around boats. Students are encouraged to sail without instructors but may sail with other classmates. (may be taken more than once) |
| CAPTAIN | This is a two-week afternoon course intended to review the material from the beginner class and transition into more advanced boat handling and introduction to racing. |
| RACING | This one week camp is available to children who already have the ability to rig and launch their own Optimist, can control their boats safely (i.e. tack and gybe) and are interested in Learning to Race.
